love wins…

i started reading love wins by rob bell today. ive heard its caused some controversies etc. and i can see why. he raises some very interesting questions, and tries to provide some answers, and he does go back to the bible (when i started i thought it might be just his opinions from what i’d heard, but he really does explain how he believes what he is saying is biblical). Im not sure how much i agree with what he writes, im still getting my head round it and i’m only halfway through, but just one part he wrote stood out to me, (although i’m not sure why God’s in a driveway)

“If, however, we crave light,
we’re drawn to truth,
we’re desperate for grace,
we’ve come to the end of our plots and schemes
and we want someone else’s path,
God gives us what we want.

If we have this sense
that we’ve wandered far from home,
and we want to return,
God is there,
standing in the driveway,
arms open,
ready to invite us in.”

jesus/religion

the first video went viral on fb recently, the second is a response to it.

i think both videos are great personally, altho prob dont agree totally with everything.  the first one was talking about having empty religion, without jesus. but ofc you can have the religion because of jesus. like in the 2nd he said you cant have christ without the church, but obv theres no point in being religious without first being in a relationship with christ. also james 1v27 -  Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
perhapsss religion isnt how we’re saved its what we do afterwards (:

make the most of every opportunity

Last night was Unite, the main weekly meeting of Southampton CU. We had a speaker called Roger Carswell and he is an absolute legend. his talk was so real and down to earth and amazingly applicable. he was basically talking about how we can share the gospel. his stories were really inspiring, and hilarious. he clearly shares the gospel at any opportunity. from people at a petrol station to passing cars in a traffic jam, from phone call advertisers to pre-paid envelopes - he literally sends them a leaflet explaining the gospel.

i think the main thing i went away with is the evangelism is an amazing privilege, it can be fun, and it really isn’t that hard. he also began by saying that many years ago he started praying for the opportunity to speak about Christ to someone every day because he was inspired by DL Moody. challenging!

“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” (2 corinthians 2:2)

i have recently stumbled upon the band Tenth Avenue North, and i think they are amazing. their heart for God and for bringing people into a closer relationship and better understand of who He is and how much He loves us is inspiring. i particularly found ‘You are more’ profound, in that it expresses how easy it is for us to forget that we are saved by grace, and are no longer find our identity in what we have done, but in what Christ has done for us.
